Bellevue’s Active Transportation Plan

Bellevue Borough is excited to announce that it has received grant funding through the WalkWorks Program to develop an Active Transportation Plan over the next year. WalkWorks is a collaborative initiative between the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and the PA Department of Health, with funding provided by the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Herbert, Rowland & Grubic (HRG), the borough’s planning and engineering firm, will lead the development of the Active Transportation Plan, with Bona Fide Bellevue providing project support on behalf of the borough and contributing to various aspects of the plan’s development.

Bellevue Borough has formed a Steering Committee to guide the process, while HRG will be responsible for gathering data, assessing current conditions, and seeking public input. Residents will have multiple opportunities to participate through a community survey, an interactive online mapping tool, a public forum, and other engagement activities—stay tuned for updates!

Keep an eye on this page for future announcements!

What is Active Transportation?

Active transportation includes walking, biking, using micromobility devices like e-bikes or e-scooters, wheelchairs and other mobility aids, as well as public transit to reach everyday destinations. While it plays a vital role in daily life, many communities face barriers that make getting around without a car challenging. This plan will focus on identifying ways to make Bellevue safer, more accessible, and better connected for people of all ages and abilities.

Every community is unique, and Bellevue’s Active Transportation Plan will be tailored to meet its specific needs and aspirations. By expanding active transportation options and making walking and biking safer, we can promote healthier, more vibrant communities, reduce traffic-related crashes, and lower the risk of chronic health conditions.
